Cover Crop Stand Evaluation
Andy Linder, Linder Family Farms

Have you ever looked at a spring cover crop stand and wondered to yourself “was that really worth it”?

You spent the time and money to plant the cover crop, and you want to see results from your investment.

Few things in farming are guaranteed, and cover crop establishment is no exception. We wanted to hear from an experienced cover crop user on how he evaluates the success or failure of a cover crop.

Obviously, if the cover crop doesn’t grow at all it may be a failed attempt, but you may not need as much growth as you think to reap the benefits of reduced erosion, weed control, and improved field conditions.

In this video, Andy Linder stands in an impressive spring cover crop and shares what he is looking for in a cover crop stand and the benefits he sees from keeping a living plant in the soil. â€‹â€‹
